World Class Paso Fino, Nevado

During the thirty-first Paso Fino Grand National Championship Horse Show and Sale, September 14-20, 2003, at the Georgia National Fairgrounds in Perry, Georgia, the Hall of Fame award, the highest prestigious award to be given to a Paso Fino, went to Nevado. The select Paso Fino stallion is owned by Rassy, LTD, of Ocala, Florida. The agent is Gordon and Tina Calhoun of Charlotte, North Carolina.

Nevado was born November 1, 1981, in Medellin, Colombia. His sire is Resorte IV and his dam is Zarina, a daughter of Pistolero. Dayro Chica Arias of Hacienda Lusitania, breeder of Nevado, even to this day says Nevado is his best masterpiece.

At an early age, Nevado made his way into the world of competition where he rivaled the best of the best, and even won against his own sire, Resorte IV, and his half-brother, Capuchino. In 1996, at age 14, he last competed at the Piedmont Paso Fino Horse Association Asheville Show, where he took second place in the Fino Stallion class to the then world champion Classic Fino stallion, Simbolo.

Nevado has distinguished himself as one of the great breeding stallions of the Resorte line. The quiet croup, which is his hallmark, is faithfully produced in his offspring. His get have established a winning tradition, excelling in both Classic Fino and Performance. Nevado is among the select stallions who enable Paso Fino breeders to develop the ‘Champions of Tomorrow.’ His true fame came to light by the excellence of his offspring and their stellar ability to produce brilliant offspring.

Nevado was honored as a top ten sire in 1992 and 1993, then again each year from 1996 to 2002. Several of his offspring have joined him on this outstanding list.

Among his many championship quality offspring are Profeta de Besilu, Springtime Radiante, El Duque, Jazmin of Columbia, Mensaje del Ocho and Resorte de Selecta. Other winning offspring in today’s U.S. show ring include Pistolero de Calidad, Majestic Oaks Cimarron and Novedad Del Juncal, to mention only a few. It is interesting to note that his offspring consistently pay tribute to him with their Nevado-like gentle temperament, electrifying energy, and their constant, superb four-beat gait. There is no doubt that Nevado’s offspring will continue to be future champions, both national and international.

Without a doubt, this horse represents the true total Paso Fino package; a stallion that consistently passes on traits that far surpass his own.

It is for all of the above reasons the board of directors of the Paso Fino Horse Association selected Nevado be inducted into the Paso Fino Hall of Fame.
